Outfit of the Week – Valentine’s Day

“Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone – we find it with another.” -Thomas Merton

In elementary school, Valentine’s Day was one of my favorite holidays of the year. I’d put all of my energy into crafting a box decorated in pink and red hearts that my classmates could stuff cards and candy in. Hand in hand, my mother and I would stroll into Walmart where I typically picked out a box of Sailor Moon, Powerpuff Girls or Hello Kitty cards. Scattered on the living room floor, I would choose only the best valentines to gift my friends, carefully selecting the right sticker to place on each one.

Since childhood, I’ve been a hopeless romantic. Not in the “love at first sight” kind of way, but in believing that there’s a special someone out there for us all. Some assume that romanticism shatters independence, but for me it’s quite the opposite. I still prefer to fight my own battles, but knowing I have someone supporting me every step of the way makes all of my endeavors that much easier to tackle. Many of us have varying definitions of love, but to me, love is sharing the journey of life with another. Through the ups and through the downs, that person is your number one cheerleader. They’re the one you share your hopes, dreams and worst fears with.

Even if you’ve yet to find someone who you’ve deemed to be soulmate material, Valentine’s Day is still a special holiday where you can let all of your loved ones know how much they truly mean to you.  Take your mom and dad out to dinner! Buy your best friend flowers! Enjoy the upcoming holiday by celebrating love in all forms.

If you’re searching for the ideal outfit for Valentine’s Day, I’m certain Plato’s Closet has what you’re looking for. Here’s an outfit that’s still available for purchase and sure to break hearts 💘.

I’ve always been one to stand by the “little black dress” staple piece, but have never felt comfortable in tight fitted bodycon dresses. Instead, I prefer feminine lace numbers that hang delicately off the body. This Illa Illa  dress has sheer sleeves and a slight dip in the back, showing just a bit of skin. The sleeves are my favorite part, with the sheerness highlighting the simple geometric pattern of the dress and ending with tassels dangling at the wrists. In honor of this holiday dedicated to love, I paired it with a red necklace and heels.

These heels from Chinese Laundry are a unique piece that will make even the simplest of outfits stand out. With a black toe, red middle and nude heel, these shoes are colorful and fun, but not too loud, but also classy and sophisticated, without being too boring. To finish off the look, a small metallic cross body bag seemed the ideal way to go.
