Since my last Wardrobe Haul in October, I’ve picked up a few winter items including a Free People Dress, faux-fur vest and cropped top sweater that have become favorites in my closet. You may remember my last wardrobe haul, which included an emerald green dress I picked up for my engagement photos, among a few other things. Considering my job is mostly styling clothes for blog and social media posts, it’s safe to say I have a natural addiction when it comes to my own personal style as well. I decided to make this a reoccurring post, because not only do I write for Plato’s Closet, but I love shopping there as well! Also, the 20% discount doesn’t hurt either. 😜
If you’re on a budget and looking to get a similar discount, you can! These discounts are for the Plato’s Closet in Jackson, TN and discounts may vary at different locations. When you sell us your gently used clothes, you’ll receive a 20% discount on your entire purchase, even if we have to pass on all of your items for some reason. Onto the personal style picks, here’s what I’ve been buying this winter:
Crop tops aren’t just for the summer and we have several cropped sweaters for winter that will keep you warm when styled with high-waisted pants. This sweater came into the store and I loved not only the stitching, but the blush pink color as well. Light pinks have been a pretty big trend for 2016 and even going into 2017, I’m not ready to let it go. If you’ve yet to incorporate this color into your wardrobe, I highly recommend doing it. I like to mix this color with light wash high-waisted boyfriends jeans and a pair of booties.
I usually don’t purchase dressy shirts and most of my tops lean more towards the casual, but cute or edgy side. Not too long ago, I agreed to photograph a friend’s wedding and realized I needed something to dress up my black jeans. The lace on this H&M top is delicate and feminine, letting just a bit of skin peak through on the arms. This blouse is loose and has a bit of a boxy fit, which I love because it gives me the comfort of the styles I normally wear! I’ll definitely be on the lookout to add a few more dressy blouses to my wardrobe.
Hands down, my favorite purchase is the velvet Free People dress! Not only does it have a beautiful design, but I love the bohemian feel it has with the poofy sleeves and billowy skirt. It’s thick and warm, making it the ideal dress to add to my winter wardrobe. I know Kate from The Lizze McGuire Movie taught us as girls not to be outfit repeaters, but I don’t even care. I’m going to be wearing this dress non-stop.
“Maybe I’m an outfit-repeater, but you’re an outfit-rememberer.”
I’m pretty sure people call these capes or ponchos or both, but don’t let people fool you. It’s a stylish blanket and one of the greatest fashion inventions. I’m proud to live in a world where it’s on trend to drape a blanket over your shoulders. I kind of wish I had one of these when I was in college, but maybe it’s for the best. I would have found it twice as hard to not fall asleep during class.
If you have a cat, just be warned they they may try to steal it from you.
A winter wardrobe wouldn’t be complete without fur (actually, faux-fur in this case). Fur was a pretty big trend for Fall 2016 and seen on several runways, from Gucci to Oscar de la Renta. It’s certainly been a favorite at Plato’s Closet, as I’ve seen several faux-fur vests and coats in the store.
Is it cool or uncool to like Twenty One Pilots anymore? Was it ever cool in the first place? Either way, I love their music and sweatshirt designs even more. Two of these came into the store in an unopened package so I didn’t feel too bad buying one and putting the second out on the floor.
The last addition to my fall/winter haul is the adorable lace choker. I know many people are over the choker trend, but I’m still going to be rocking it throughout 2017.
