While preparing outfits for a blog post about how to style basic pieces (be on the look out for that), I came across this midi skirt. I think the last time I wore a long skirt like this was when I used to wear jean skirts as a kid. Even though a style like this was a bit out of my comfort zone, I was so amazed by the pattern and texture of this skirt, that I had to style it for an “Outfit of the week” post.
This skirt is made of 96% polyester and 4% spandex. The material feels nice and snug, showing off curves and synching in your waist. Midi skirts have been trending as of late and for obvious reasons. The pattern on this is eye catching and makes it a great statement piece. I wore this as a high waisted skirt, pairing it with a crop top and sneakers.
I didn’t want to distract from the skirt, but I still wanted to give the look a little bit of edge. I opted for a plain black crop top, but with hole cut outs at the top to compliment the look I was going for. The shoes I’m wearing are a pair of black high top Nike’s, turning it into a sporty-chic look. While the Nike shoes I’m wearing are from my own closet, the skirt and crop top are both items that will be back in store at Plato’s Closet!
An outfit like this is not only street stylish, but it can be easily transformed into a party or date night look by pairing it with some wedges or heels. Personally I wouldn’t wear much jewelry with this kind of outfit, unless I was switching to a different shirt. Both the top and the skirt are already loud enough on their own and too much more would take away from that.
