Five ways to achieve Taylor Swift’s Goth Grunge Look

Flannels, leather jackets and sneakers are what you need to get that grunge look we’ve been seeing on Taylor Swift lately. (Photo: Winmark)

It’s one thing when Anna Wintour asks you to dress with more rock n’ roll vibes. It’s a whole other thing when she gets the pop queen to do it herself. So no, this isn’t a blog post about the #KimExposedTaylorParty – that’s a level of high school type drama that I won’t get into – but this is a blog post about how you can attain Swift’s style. So while you may still be struggling on who’s side you should be taking in this mess, I promise not to tell that you’re getting your style inspiration from her. It’ll be our little secret.

All of these looks have been recreated from styles Taylor Swift has worn. Bonus, they’re all from Plato’s Closet so you can get rock star vibes without the rock star budget!

1. White crop top, black jeans and wedges

Avoid looking basic by ditching the sneakers for a pair of wedges. It instantly turns this casual look into something worth photographing.

White crop top: Body Central / Size large / $3

Black jeans: Signature Studio / Size 3/4 / $10

Wedges: Brash / Size 11 / $8

So you say you’re grunge at heart, but you still love to sparkle? No problem! Take a page from Swift’s book and make your look edgier by pairing it with a thick heel and dark lip.

Boots: Charlotte Russe / Size 9 / $12

3. Flannel, white crop top, blue jeans and sneakers

Being grunge and wearing flannel are like peanut butter and jelly. They’re a sacred combo that no force in the universe would dare to tear apart. Plus, why should comfort always be sacrificed for style? That’s not a problem with this look.

Flannel (far left): Mossimo / Size medium / $5

Flannel (middle): BKE / Size medium / $14

Flannel (far right): Aeropostale / Size medium / $8

Blue jeans: Gap / Size 3/4 / $15

White sneakers: Adidas / Size 7 / $10tswift071816-label4

4. Black T-shirt and shorts, paired with a long necklace and white sneakers

This is a simple summer style that requires little to no effort to pull off. If you’re like me, then half of your wardrobe is already black and you have this section down to a tee. Let’s face it: black is slimming, chic, and stains are less likely to show up after you drive to work while scarfing down your breakfast. Top it off with a long necklace so it looks like you put effort into your look.

Black T-shirt: Mossimo / Size extra small / $3

Black shorts: Old Navy / Size 3/4 / $5

White sneakers: Addidas / Size 7 / $10

Peace sign necklace: $3

5. A flannel dress, faux leather jacket and thick heels

Wearing flannel once means you like to dress down and comfy. Wearing flannel twice? Whoa, slow down there, Nirvana.  A flannel dress such as this one is cute enough on it’s own, but pairing it with a leather jacket and thick heels really pushes this look over the edge.

Plaid dress: Tommy Hilfiger / Size extra small / $14

Faux leather jacket: Rue 21 / Size large / $15

Boots: Charlotte Russe / Size 9 / $12

Have you already tried out Swift’s new look for yourself?

  1. Thanks a ton for being my personal tutor on this theme. My partner and i enjoyed your current article very much and most of all favored how you really handled the areas I widely known as controversial. You happen to be always quite kind towards readers much like me and help me in my existence. Thank you.
